Requirements #
- Minimum stake: 1,000,000 TPC
- Minimum hardware requirements: AWS EC2 m5.large with 8GB RAM, 2 vCPUs and at least 300GB of Amazon EBS General Purpose SSD (gp2) storage (or equivalent).
- We would recommend going with Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS (64-bit).
Network Settings
Open up port 22 for SSH, as well as port 5050 for both TCP and UDP traffic.
Install Required Tools #
You are still logged in as the new user via SSH. Now we are going to install Go and Photon.
First, install the required build tools:
# Install build-essential

Next, register your TechPay testnet validator node. You need to create a validator wallet. The wallet is the validator’s identity in the network which it uses to authenticate, sign messages, etc. First, start the Photon read-only node to interact with it and to create a validator wallet:

(validator)$ cd build/
(validator)$ wget https://photon.techpay.io/testnet.g

The node running and syncing the network in your current console, so you need to open up a new console window, connect via SSH to the server and enter the following commands to create a wallet:

(validator)$ ./photon account newAfter entering the command, you will get prompted to enter a password for the account (= wallet). It will look something like this:
Create a new validator key #
We have to create validator private key to sign consensus messages with. It can be done only using go-photon

(validator)$ ./photon validator newFollow the prompts and supply the password, the output is as follows:

Path of the secret key file:
- You can share your public key with anyone. Others need it to validate messages from you.
- You must NEVER share the secret key with anyone! The key controls access to your validator!
- You must BACKUP your key file! Without the key, it's impossible to operate the validator!
- You must REMEMBER your password! Without the password, it's impossible to decrypt the key!Create your validator via the SFC #
Open up the console where you entered the commands to create the validator wallet previously and attach to the Photon node console:
# Attach to photon console
(validator)$ ./photon attachBy doing so, you will get a JavaScript console where you can directly interact with the Photon node and e.g. send transactions (which you will do in a moment):

Next, try to get your validatorID from the SFC using your previously generated validator wallet address:

Next, send the createValidator transaction to register your validator (the value is the representation of the smallest TPC unit, so dividing it be 1e18 will result in 100,0000 TPC. Alternatively, you can use web3.toWei(“1000000.0”, “tpc”)). Use quotes for “YOUR_PUBKEY” and “YOUR_ADDRESS”:

Run your Testnet Validator Node #
The last step is to restart your node in validator mode!
Close the Photon console window by typing “exit”. Then head back to the console window where you started your node with the following command:
